preparing phenol tea as a base for organic developer:

Below you can see how we cooked the liquid used for the photographs exhibited. Generally speaking, the plant teas should be strained through a dish cloth and the chemicals added whilst stirring well at the same time. Organic developer is meant to be used not long after making it and to be stored in a fridge. Approximately 300 ml of developer solution is enough to develop one film, for further developing 800-1000 L are appropriate.

tulip tea
A bouquet of tulips cooked 40-50 min in boiling water (1400ml) and add 80g soda, 25 vitamin c for 1 L!

japanese knotweed
170 gr leaves cut into pieces, heated up in 1500 ml water with 80g soda and 24 gr vitamin c, let sit over night

wall barley & fleabane
covered the plants in 3l water and boilt for 15min and added to each liter of water 85g Soda and 25g Vitamin C.

trepadeira azul
two big hands full of petals cooked for about 40-50 min, let soaked over night then mixed with 80g soda and 24g vitamin c per 1L

caffenol
180g soda, 19,4 gr vitamin c, 48 gr coffee, 1200 ml water

We made sure to use what’s local and in season for us. We didn’t harvest the entire plant, only parts of it so that it can regrow. Using vegetable leftovers from the kitchen or coffee grounds is of course possible too.
